Materials such as Inconel and stainless steel can be added in the precise quantity required to achieve the desired profile and then machined, resulting in significant cost savings on these expensive materials.

Strategically, higher-strength materials can be added to areas of the part subject to greater wear, such as in stamping tools, resulting in increased efficiency at a lower cost. The laser head that melts the material into powder can also perform engraving operations.

Another important application is mold repair, where material is deposited in the damaged area and then machined, even on complex profiles. In this case, there will be low-temperature heat transfer to the mold, thus preventing potential cracking.
